The Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Institute (RIMYI)

The Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Institute (RIMYI) is located in Pune, Maharashtra, India.

The Institute was established on January 19, 1975 and is dedicated to Smt. Ramamani Iyengar, the wife of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar. Its directors are Prashant S. Iyengar and Abhijata Sridhar Iyengar.

Students and Iyengar yoga teachers from all over the world travel to study at the Institute every year. It is a real honour and privilege to be able to attend for a whole month to study at the Institute.

Week One

Pune is a rapidly developing Indian city, with a large population, and is where BKS Iyengar set up the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) 50 years ago. The continual movement and sound of rickshaws, motorbikes, cars and building work make it a real assault on the senses on first arrival, but if you look you can find pockets of calm.

Week Two

After 16 days in India I am beginning to settle into the rhythm of life here. We were surprised by rain this week, which is very unusual for January, but I did enjoy the coοler mornings. Did lots of walking and travelling about in rickshaws. Enjoyed some home cooked food courtesy of our landlord Dheeraj"s mum. It is easy to be healthy here, and I am enjoying...

Week Three

This week we had our last 3 sessions observing RIMYI teachers, visiting teachers and students in the Medical group. We also enjoyed a special 1 hr session with Raya focusing on working with injuries, specifically knees. All the sessions have been really interesting and so well presented.

Week Four

The week began with two nights of fireworks, lasers, and incredibly loud sound systems as the city celebrated the inauguration of the controversial new Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh.
